The Panama Bay (in Spanish: Bahia de Panamá) is a large area of water. It is found off the southern coast of Panama. The bay is located at 8°50′00″N 79°15′00″W / 8.8333333°N 79.25°W. It is also part of the much bigger Gulf of Panama.
Why is Panama Bay Polluted?
The Panama Bay has a problem with too many nutrients. This condition is called eutrophication. It means the water has too much plant food. This can cause too much algae to grow. The World Resources Institute says the bay is in this state.
This problem comes from different sources. Farms and animal raising activities send pollution into the bay. Also, dirty water from nearby Panama City flows into the bay. All these things add to the nutrient problem in Panama Bay.
