Geography of the Matasnillo River
The Matasnillo River is about 12.5 kilometres (7.8 mi) long. It collects water from an area of 583 square kilometres (225 sq mi). The river starts high up, about 200 metres (660 ft) above sea level. It then flows down to the ocean.
Where the River Flows
The Matasnillo River travels through busy parts of Panama City. Because of this, it faces a lot of pollution. This pollution comes from both factories and homes. The water in the river has been called "critical" for its high level of pollution. This means it is not safe to drink or play in.

The river finishes its journey in Panama Bay. It meets the bay where the Marbella and Punta Paitilla neighborhoods come together.
