Paniahue facts for kids
Paniahue is a small village in Chile. It is located north of Santa Cruz, in the Colchagua Province of the O'Higgins Region. The name Paniahue comes from the Mapudungun language. It means "proper place to take the glare."
In 1899, about 1,055 people lived in Paniahue. At that time, the village had its own post office and a free public school. Today, Paniahue has grown. About 2,526 people live there now.

The village of Paniahue was greatly affected by a very strong earthquake in 2010. This earthquake caused a lot of damage across Chile. Many buildings in Paniahue were hit hard. The Paniahue apartments became a famous symbol of the earthquake's power. They showed how much damage the quake could cause.
