What is Paradise Café about?
Ancient Secrets and Sea Ghosts
Long, long ago, on a beautiful place called Paradise Island, a brave hero known as the Sea Born trapped an evil sea ghost named Ragnar. Ragnar and many other sea ghosts were locked away in an underwater coral prison. Ragnar swore he would get his revenge one day!
Sea ghosts are a big part of the story. They are the spirits of people who died at sea or very close to it. They can be invisible, look like regular humans, or show their true ghost form. In their true form, they have grey skin with black spots and wear ragged versions of their old clothes. You can usually see their true form if you look at them through water, like the fish tank in the Paradise Café. Anything a sea ghost gives away, like money or clothes, turns into sand after a short time.
New Beginnings and New Friends
Many years later, two siblings, Megan and Robbo, move to Paradise Island with their dad. They plan to open a café there. Robbo quickly becomes friends with Tai, who is a kind but clumsy local. Megan eventually gets along with Abi, a rich and sometimes spoiled girl.
A mysterious girl named Chloe is very keen to meet everyone. The audience soon learns that Chloe is a sea ghost working for Ragnar! The five kids discover that one of them – Robbo, Tai, or Megan – is the new Sea Born. Ragnar needs the Sea Born to escape his prison.
Unmasking a Spy and Saving the Day
Megan eventually finds out that Chloe is a sea ghost. This makes Chloe very angry, and she tries to hurt Megan. But Megan promises not to tell the others (she doesn't know Chloe is a spy yet), and they become best friends. This makes Abi feel left out and jealous.
When Ragnar kidnaps Robbo, Chloe has to tell everyone that she has been spying for Ragnar all along. The group loses all trust in her. It is then revealed that Tai is the true Sea Born! Together, the gang and Chloe manage to defeat Ragnar.
New Adventures in Season Two
In the second season, Ragnar is gone, so there's no big threat to the café anymore. Each episode follows a similar pattern: a sea ghost with a problem appears at the café. The kids help the ghost, often leading to funny situations. After their problem is solved, the ghost returns to the sea.
A new character, Natasha, joins the show. In the first episode of season two, the kids think she's a sea ghost because she acts a bit awkward and wears unusual clothes. So, they keep trying to "accidentally" splash water on her!
Who are the Characters?
- Holly Bodimeade as Megan (Seasons 1–2, 26 episodes) – Megan is Robbo's younger sister. She is very kind and caring, especially about the café. She often takes charge of running it. Megan likes to keep things tidy and isn't very interested in fashion, unlike Abi. She was thought to be the Sea Born at first. She becomes Chloe's best friend. In season two, she learns to be more relaxed.
- Pax Baldwin as Robbo (Seasons 1–2, 26 episodes) – Robbo is Megan's older brother. He often tries to avoid trouble but learns to be more thoughtful. He is best friends with Tai and is kind to the café's customers. In season one, he becomes a bit selfish and gets kidnapped by Ragnar. Tai saves him. In season two, Robbo is more caring and helps Tai run the café. He also seems to get closer to Abi.
- Halaifonua Finau as Tai (Seasons 1–2, 26 episodes) – Tai has lived on the island his whole life with his grandmother, who believes in many old stories about sea ghosts. Tai can be easily tricked sometimes, but he is also very strong-willed when his friends need help. He is Robbo's best friend. Tai is revealed to be the Sea Born and helps trap Ragnar again at the end of season one. He loses his powers in season two but gets them back later.
- Lara Custance as Abi (Seasons 1–2, 26 episodes) – Abi loves fashion and shopping. She lives in her mother's hotel on the island. Abi can sometimes be selfish, but she has a good heart. She didn't like Megan at first because of her style, but they later became good friends. She had a rivalry with Chloe. In season two, Abi is less spoiled because her mother's hotel loses guests due to pollution. She also seems to get closer to Robbo.
- Amelia Reynolds as Chloe (Seasons 1–2, 15 episodes) – Chloe is a cool girl from the 1950s. She seems quirky and fun, eager to make friends. Her style and personality are very 1950s. Later, it's revealed that Chloe is a sea ghost working for Ragnar to find the Sea Born. Megan is the first to learn her secret, and they become best friends. At the end of season one, Chloe turns against Ragnar and joins the gang. In season two, she has to leave the island.
- Georgia Fabish as Natasha (Season 2, 13 episodes) – Natasha joins in season two as Peter's assistant and a reporter. She is clumsy and often unlucky but also friendly. She knows the gang is hiding a secret and wants to find out what it is. At the start of season two, Natasha accidentally breaks the seal holding the sea ghosts, which causes pollution to return to the island.
