Parapara, also known as Parapara de Ortíz, is a small city located in the Guárico state of Venezuela. It is also a special area called a parish (parroquia) within the Juan Germán Roscio Municipality. The city's name comes from an old local word for the fruit of the paraparo tree (Sapindus saponaria).

A Glimpse into Parapara's History
Parapara was founded a long time ago, in 1660. In 1800, a famous explorer named Alexander von Humboldt traveled through this region. He wrote about Parapara in his book, Personal narrative of travels to the equinoccial regions.
Back then, the main way people in Parapara earned money was by digging up gypsum. Gypsum is a soft mineral used to make things like plaster and fertilizer. This gypsum was then sent to the city of Caracas.
Later, Joaquín Crespo, who became a President of Venezuela, lived in Parapara for many years of his life.
