Parima Tapirapecó National Park (also known as Parque Nacional Parima Tapirapecó in Spanish) is a huge national park located in the southern part of Venezuela. It's found in the state of Amazonas.

This park is very important because it protects a large area of nature. It also helps preserve the culture of the Yanomami people who live there.

Where is Parima Tapirapecó National Park?

Parima Tapirapecó National Park is located in the Atabapo and Río Negro areas of Venezuela.

It is one of the biggest national parks in the world. In fact, it's the 5th largest globally and the 2nd largest in all of South America!

The park was created on August 1, 1991. It covers an enormous area of 38,290 square kilometers (about 15,000 square miles). This makes it the largest national park in Venezuela.

A very special feature of this park is that it protects the starting point of the Orinoco River. This is one of the longest rivers in South America.

What is the Environment Like?

The park is part of a special natural area called the Guayanan Highlands moist forests. This means it has a lot of wet, green forests.

The main types of plants you'll find in Parima Tapirapecó National Park are:

  • Evergreen lowland forests: These are forests that stay green all year round and are found in lower areas.
  • Submontane and montane forests: These are forests found on the slopes of mountains.

In the southern part of the park, especially in the Parima uplands, there are also large areas of savannas. Savannas are like grasslands with scattered trees. Many of these savannas have grown back after being cleared in the past.
