Parkwood (Decatur) facts for kids
Parkwood is a friendly neighborhood located on the western side of Decatur, Georgia. Decatur is a suburb of Atlanta, a big city in Georgia. Most of Parkwood became an official part of the City of Decatur in 2014.
This neighborhood has clear borders. To the north, you'll find Ponce de Leon Avenue. East Lake Road is to the south. The CSX railroad tracks are on the west side. And to the east, you'll see Melrose Avenue and the Adair Park community.
Parkwood is part of the larger, historic Druid Hills area. However, Parkwood itself is known for its homes built in the middle of the 20th century. These are mostly "ranch style" houses. The streets in Parkwood are curvy, and the homes often sit on large pieces of land. Some of the streets include East Parkwood Road, West Parkwood Road, Parkwood Lane, Upland Road, and Wimberly Court.
It's good to know that North Parkwood Road, which is north of Ponce de Leon Avenue, is actually part of a different neighborhood called Chelsea Heights.

Deepdene Park
Deepdene Park is another beautiful park located west of the Parkwood neighborhood on Ponce de Leon Avenue. This park is part of the famous Olmsted Linear Parks of Druid Hills. These parks were designed a long time ago by a very famous landscape architect named Frederick Law Olmsted. He created these parks in the late 1800s and early 1900s.
Getting Around: Transportation
If you need to travel around the area, the East Lake MARTA rail station is very close. MARTA is Atlanta's public transportation system. The station is just one block south of Parkwood. You can find it at Howard Avenue and East Lake Drive.
