Parrottsville is a small town located in Cocke County, Tennessee, in the United States. It was first settled in 1769 and officially became a town in 1923. The town is named after an early settler, John Parrott. According to the 2020 census, 217 people live in Parrottsville.

Geography and Location

Parrottsville is found in the northeastern part of Cocke County. A major road, U.S. Route 321, runs just south of the town. This four-lane highway connects Parrottsville to other places.

If you travel southwest on US-321 for about 7 miles (11 km), you will reach Newport. Newport is the main town, or county seat, of Cocke County. Traveling northeast on US-321 for about 19 miles (31 km) will take you to Greeneville.

The town of Parrottsville covers a total area of about 0.74 square miles (1.9 square kilometers). All of this area is land, with no water.

Population Changes Over Time

The number of people living in Parrottsville has changed quite a bit over the years. In 1880, there were about 100 residents. The population stayed fairly small for many decades, sometimes going up a little and sometimes down.

For example, in 1960, only 91 people lived there. However, the town started to grow more in the 1990s and 2000s. By 2000, the population had nearly doubled to 207 people. In 2010, it reached its highest point with 263 residents. By 2020, the population was 217 people.
