Partner (also known as Croft's Partner or Old Partner) was a famous British Thoroughbred racehorse. He was a very fast runner and won six out of his seven races! After his racing career, he became a very important father horse, called a sire. He was even named the best sire in Great Britain and Ireland four times. Partner helped continue the family line of another famous horse named Byerley Turk.
Partner's Racing Adventures
Partner was born in 1718. His first owner sold him to Mr. Cotton, who then sold him to Lord Halifax. Lord Halifax raced Partner, and he was incredibly successful.
Partner was unbeatable in 1723 and 1724. He took a break in 1725, then came back strong in 1726. In one race, he beat another horse named Sloven. Partner only lost one race in his whole career, which happened in 1728 to a horse called Smiling Ball. After this, Partner was sold to John Croft to begin his new job as a sire.
Partner's Family Tree
After his racing days, Partner became a very important sire. This means he had many horse children who also became famous racers or sires themselves. He lived to be 29 years old!
His most important son was a horse named Tartar. Tartar then became the father of a very influential horse named Herod. Herod's family line is still important in horse racing today! Partner also had other famous children like Cato, Golden Ball, Sedbury, and Traveller. He even had a daughter who became the mother of another famous horse named Matchem.
