Passport to Paris is a fun American movie from 1999 starring the famous twin sisters Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. They also helped produce the film! It was one of the first movies made directly for video that featured the Olsen twins.
Story of the Movie
The movie is about 13-year-old twin sisters, Melanie (Mary-Kate Olsen) and Allyson Porter (Ashley Olsen). Their parents want them to see more of the world. So, they send the girls to Paris, France, for spring break. They are supposed to stay with their grandfather, Edward (Peter White). He is the American Ambassador to France, which means he represents the U.S. government in France.
The girls expect a fun trip with their grandpa. But instead, they spend their days following a strict schedule with his serious assistant, Jeremy (Matt Winston). Grandpa Edward is always busy with his important ambassador duties. They also learn strict rules at his fancy mansion, like no loud music or jumping on beds. They must also dress nicely for dinner and always be on time.
One afternoon, while out for lunch, the girls meet Brigitte (Yvonne Sciò). She is a beautiful French fashion model. Brigitte agrees to show them the amazing sights of Paris. The twins also meet two charming French boys, Jean and Michel. Melanie and Allyson find clever ways to get away from Jeremy. This allows them to spend time cruising around the city on mopeds with the boys.
One day, the twins, Jean, and Michel end up in trouble. They are caught by the police for going onto private property. Grandpa Edward is very upset. He tells the girls they cannot see the boys again.
Later, at dinner, the girls bravely speak up to the French Foreign Minister, Monsieur De Beauvoir. A Foreign Minister is a government official who deals with other countries. Melanie and Allyson manage to convince him to agree to an important plan. This plan, proposed by their grandfather, is about getting clean drinking water for the Embassy. Because of this, Melanie and Allyson are back in Grandpa Edward's good graces. He then allows them to see Jean and Michel again. He even lets all four of them go to a dance together, where they share their first kisses.
When it is time for the girls to go home, Grandpa Edward decides to take a much-needed break. He leaves his ambassador duties for a while. He goes with the girls back to the United States. He wants to spend more time with his family, whom he has not seen in a long time.
