Micah LeVar Troy (born November 18, 1977), also known as Pastor Troy, is an American rapper. He comes from Augusta, Georgia. He is famous for his song "Are We Cuttin'" from 2002. This song even made it onto the Billboard Hot 100 music chart.
Before that, in 2001, he signed with Universal Records. He released his album Face Off, which was his first album with a big record label. His album Universal Soldier (2002) was also very popular. It reached number 13 on the Billboard 200 chart. Besides his solo music, he was also the main member of a hip hop group called D.S.G.B. (Down South Georgia Boyz).
Early Life and Inspiration
Micah LeVar Troy was born on November 18, 1977. His birthplace was College Park, Georgia. His father, Alfred Troy, was a drill instructor who later became a pastor.
Troy went to Creekside High School. He also attended Paine College in Augusta, Georgia. But he decided to focus fully on his rap career. His rap name, Pastor Troy, comes from his last name and his father's job. It also sounds like Castor Troy, a character from the 1997 movie Face/Off. His album Face Off is named after this movie.
Music Career Highlights
Pastor Troy released his first album, We Ready (I Declare War), in 1999. He quickly gained attention in the music world.
Other famous rappers noticed his talent. Ludacris asked Troy to be on his song "Get Off Me." This song was on Ludacris's album Back for the First Time. Around this time, Troy also started the hip hop group D.S.G.B. (Down South Georgia Boyz). He was the leader of this group. He also appeared on Lil Jon & the Eastside Boyz' song "Throw It Up."
In 2002, Pastor Troy's album Universal Soldier became very popular. Especially in the Southern part of the country. The hit song "Are We Cuttin'" was on this album. It was also part of the soundtrack for the action movie xXx. The album reached number 13 on the Billboard 200 chart. In 2003, Troy worked with Young Jeezy on the song "GA."
Troy released By Any Means Necessary in 2004. After this album, he left Universal Records. He then released Face Off, Part II. In 2005, he worked with Killer Mike on Chamillionaire's song "Southern Takeover."
He released three albums in 2006. These were Stay Tru, By Choice or By Force, and Atlanta 2 Memphis. The last one was a team-up with rapper Criminal Manne. Stay Tru sold 6,000 copies in its first week.
Pastor Troy continued to release many albums. In June 2009, he released his sixteenth solo album, Ready for War. He released seven more albums until 2011. In 2012, he released The Last OutLaw. In 2013, he released The Streets Need You. He also released mixtapes like Crown Royal Part 4 in 2014. In 2015, he released WAR (We Are Ready) in Atlanta. This album featured other rappers like Paul Wall and Bun B.
In 2017, Troy said he would stop making music. He released his album O.G.P.T that July. He also announced a film he wrote and directed, Down 2 Come Up. But despite his announcement, he continued his music career. He released Clubber Lang in 2018 and Enemy of the State in 2019.
Awards and Recognition
On April 5, 2016, Pastor Troy received a special award. He got the Legends of ATL Award from BMI. This award recognized his important contributions to music in Atlanta.
