Micah LeVar Troy (born November 18, 1977), who is known by his stage name Pastor Troy, is an American rapper from Augusta, Georgia. He is famous for his 2002 song "Are We Cuttin'", which was a hit on the Billboard Hot 100 music chart.

In 2001, he signed with a major record company, Universal Records. His first album with them was Face Off, which made it onto the Billboard 200 chart. His next album, Universal Soldier (2002), was even more popular, reaching number 13 on the chart. Besides his work as a solo artist, he was also the main member of the hip hop group D.S.G.B. (Down South Georgia Boyz).

Early Life and Name

Micah LeVar Troy was born in College Park, Georgia, on November 18, 1977. His father, Alfred Troy, used to be a drill instructor and later became a pastor.

Troy went to Creekside High School and later attended Paine College. However, he decided to leave college to focus on his music career. His stage name, "Pastor Troy," is a mix of his father's job as a pastor and his own last name. It's also a reference to Castor Troy, a character from the 1997 movie Face/Off. He even named his fourth album Face Off after the film.

Music Career

Getting Started

Pastor Troy released his first album, We Ready (I Declare War), in 1999. On the album, he included a song called "No Mo Play in G.A." that called out another producer, Master P. This helped him get noticed in the music world.

Soon after, he worked with other famous rappers from Georgia. He was featured on the song "Get Off Me" by Ludacris. He also appeared on the song "Throw It Up" from Lil Jon & the Eastside Boyz's popular 2002 album, Kings of Crunk. During this time, he also started his own group, D.S.G.B. (Down South Georgia Boyz).

Mainstream Success

In 2002, Pastor Troy's album Universal Soldier became a big hit, especially in the South. The album featured the single "Are We Cuttin'", which also appeared on the soundtrack for the action movie xXx. The album was very successful, reaching number 13 on the Billboard 200 chart.

In 2004, he released By Any Means Necessary. This was his last album with Universal Records. He left the label because he and the company had different ideas about his music.

Independent Career

After leaving Universal, Pastor Troy started releasing music on his own. He released Face Off, Part II in 2005. He also worked with other artists, like Chamillionaire on the song "Southern Takeover."

He was very busy in 2006, releasing three albums: Stay Tru, By Choice or By Force, and Atlanta 2 Memphis. He continued to release many more albums and mixtapes over the next decade, building a strong fan base.

In 2017, Troy said he was going to retire from music and released what he called his last album, O.G.P.T. He also wrote and directed a movie. However, he continued to release new music, including the albums Clubber Lang (2018) and Enemy of the State (2019).

Awards

On April 5, 2016, Pastor Troy was given the Legends of ATL Award by BMI. He received the award for his important contributions to the music scene in Atlanta.
