Percy Robert Miller, known as Master P, was born on April 29, 1970. He is an American rapper, record producer, and businessman. He started his own music company, No Limit Records, in 1991. This company later became New No Limit Records and No Limit Forever Records.

Master P became famous in the mid-1990s. He was part of the hip hop group TRU. His fifth album, Ice Cream Man (1996), and its song "Mr. Ice Cream Man" were very popular. His 1997 song, "Make 'Em Say Uhh!", sold over a million copies. Master P has released 15 studio albums in total.

Early Life and Beginnings

Percy Robert Miller was born and grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana. He is the oldest of five children. His brothers include the rap artists Corey "C-Murder" and Vyshonne "Silkk the Shocker" Miller.

He played basketball in high school and went to the University of Houston on a scholarship. However, he left college and moved to California. After his grandfather passed away, Master P received $10,000. He used this money to open a record store called No Limit Records And Tapes. This store later became the start of his music company, No Limit Records. In 1990, his brother Kevin was killed in New Orleans. This sad event made Master P even more determined to succeed and help his family.

Music Career Highlights

Early Music: 1989–1995

Master P released his first album, Get Away Clean, in 1991. His second album, Mama's Bad Boy, followed in 1992. In 1993, he released his first album with his group TRU, called Who's da Killer?

His third album, The Ghettos Tryin to Kill Me!, came out in 1994. In 1995, he released his fourth album, 99 Ways to Die. TRU's album True (1995) was their first big release. It featured the well-known song "I'm Bout' It, Bout It".

Mainstream Success: 1995–2000

In 1995, Master P moved his No Limit Records company back to New Orleans. He signed new artists and producers. His fifth album, Ice Cream Man, was released in 1996. It included the hit song "Mr. Ice Cream Man".

In 1997, TRU released Tru 2 da Game. Master P, C-Murder, and Silkk the Shocker were the main members. On September 2, 1997, Master P released his very successful album, Ghetto D. It sold over 760,000 copies in its first week. The album's hit song "Make 'Em Say Uhh!" was nominated for an MTV Video Music Award.

His seventh album, MP Da Last Don (1998), was his best-selling album. It sold over four million copies. In 1999, he released his eighth album, Only God Can Judge Me, which sold over 500,000 copies. In 2000, his ninth album, Ghetto Postage, came out. Also in 2000, Master P's new group, 504 Boyz, released their first album, Goodfellas, with the hit song "Wobble Wobble".

Later Works: 2001–Present

Master P's tenth album, Game Face, was released in 2001. His company, No Limit Records, faced some challenges and had to file for bankruptcy in 2003.

In 2005, Master P and his son Romeo Miller started a new music company called Guttar Music. They released the album Living Legend: Certified D-Boy. Master P and 504 Boyz also released Hurricane Katrina: We Gon Bounce Back, dedicated to those affected by the hurricane.

Since 2010, Master P has continued to release new music and projects. He rebranded his label as No Limit Forever. He has released several mixtapes and albums, including The Gift (2013) and Empire, from the Hood to Hollywood (2015). He also formed new groups like Money Mafia and No Limit Boys.

In 2020, Master P released No Limit Chronicles, a TV series about his music label. This series brought attention to his brother C-Murder's situation, and Master P has worked to help him.

Business Ventures

Master P is not just a rapper; he is also a very successful businessman and investor. He was one of the first rappers to see the big business potential in the music industry. He invested the money he earned from No Limit Records into many different businesses. These included a travel agency, real estate, films, TV shows, toys, clothing, and even gas stations.

His company, No Limit Enterprises, made $110 million in 1998. This success inspired other artists to start their own businesses. Master P also has his own line of "Make 'Em Say Ughh!" energy drinks.

Smart Business Strategies

In 1996, Master P made a special deal with Priority Records. His company, No Limit Records, kept 100% ownership of their music recordings. They also kept 85% of their record sales. This deal helped Master P earn a lot of money from his music.

Master P also used clever marketing ideas. He would sell tapes from his car in different cities. He gave free samples to people with nice cars so they would play his music. This "street-level" marketing helped him build a large fan base. He also released many records quickly and branded all his albums with the "No Limit" name. He made sure his albums stood out with unique covers and offered more songs per album than other artists. He turned his artists into characters, like in Marvel Comics. These strategies helped his record labels sell 75 million records.

Master P has managed the careers of his son, Romeo Miller, and other artists. He was also an executive producer for his daughter Cymphonique's Nickelodeon show, How To Rock, and co-created Romeo!, starring his son.

In 1998, Forbes magazine listed Master P as one of America's highest-paid entertainers. His wealth was estimated at $200 million in 2013, making him one of the richest people in hip hop.

Professional Basketball

Master P also tried a career in professional basketball. In 1998, he joined the Fort Wayne Fury in the CBA league. He later had tryouts with NBA teams like the Charlotte Hornets and Toronto Raptors. He played for other teams like the San Diego Stingrays and the Las Vegas Rattlers.

In 2008, he played in the McDonald's NBA All-Star Celebrity Game. He also coached an AAU team called the P. Miller Ballers. Famous NBA players like Brandon Jennings and DeMar DeRozan were on his team. DeRozan said Master P taught them about life and the business of basketball.
