In 2015, the LMHOF opened the "LMHOF Wall Of Fame at BTR." This display is at the Baton Rouge Metro Airport. It shows 43 gold records and artwork for 43 honored artists. There are also big screens that share stories about these musicians.
The Hall of Fame hopes to open even bigger displays in the future. These new exhibits will show more gold records and special items from the musicians. They plan to have these in several places across Louisiana. A full museum might open in Baton Rouge or New Orleans, which is a famous music city.
How the Hall of Fame Started
The idea for the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame began in 1979. A journalist named Del Moon wanted to create a place to honor Louisiana's music. In 1980, a group was officially formed.
For many years, it was hard to get the project going. There were money problems and not much help from the government. Del Moon put the project on hold for a while.
Later, in 2005, a music expert named Mike Shepherd restarted the effort. He created a new organization and got the official name back. Mike Shepherd also got help from Del Moon again.
In 2009, the LMHOF helped musician Al "Carnival Time" Johnson get a special deal. His music and image were used in a lottery promotion. This helped him get more recognition and money.
The Hall of Fame has held many concerts to raise money. These events celebrate Louisiana's music. In 2010, the Louisiana Legislature officially recognized the LMHOF. They called it "the official honors and recognition organization" for Louisiana's music.
The Hall of Fame's website has become very popular. By 2014, it had over 1 million visits. By 2015, it reached 2.35 million visits. Today, it has over 2.85 million visits!
