Patricia Evelyn Hutchins (born June 18, 1942 – died November 8, 2017) was a talented English artist, writer, and TV presenter. She created many wonderful books for children. She won a special award called the Kate Greenaway Medal in 1974 for her book The Wind Blew. Many people also knew her from the popular children's TV show, Rosie and Jim, where she was the friendly owner of the 'Ragdoll boat'.

Pat was married to Laurence Hutchins, who was also an illustrator. They had two children together. She wrote books for young readers, and sometimes Laurence drew the pictures for them.

Pat Hutchins' Life Story

Pat Hutchins was born in Yorkshire, England, on June 18, 1942. She was one of seven children in her family.

She loved art and studied it at Darlington School of Art in 1958. Later, she continued her art studies at Leeds College of Art and finished in 1962. She worked for an advertising company in London until 1966.

In 1966, Pat married Laurence Hutchins. They moved to New York City for two years. While there, she started writing and illustrating her very first picture book, Rosie's Walk. This book was published in 1968. It became very popular and is still her most well-known work around the world.

Pat also created the famous character Titch. The stories about Titch and his family were inspired by Pat's own family life.

Pat Hutchins wrote many books, including more than 25 picture books. She won the Greenaway Medal in 1974 for The Wind Blew. She was also praised for her book One-Eyed Jack in 1979.

In 1995, Pat became the presenter of the British children's TV show, Rosie and Jim. She played an artist who owned a narrowboat. The puppet characters, Rosie and Jim, called her 'Loopy Lobes' because of her fun, big earrings. Pat appeared in 45 episodes of the show and also illustrated books for the series.

Pat Hutchins passed away on November 8, 2017, when she was 75 years old.
