Patillal is a small village and a special kind of local area called a corregimiento in Colombia. It is part of the larger Valledupar area, which is located in the Cesar Department. Patillal is found near the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta mountains. The land around the village is often quite dry.

Where is Patillal?
Patillal is located in a specific part of Colombia. It shares its borders with several other areas. To the north, it touches the Guajira Department. To the west, you'll find the corregimiento of La Mina. To the southwest, it borders Los Haticos. South of Patillal are Rio Seco and La Vega Arriba. Finally, to the east, it borders the corregimiento of Badillo. Knowing its neighbors helps us understand its exact location.
A Look at Patillal's Past
The area where Patillal is now was once a large piece of land used for raising cattle. This land was owned by a person named María Antonia de las Nieves de Maestre. Patillal was officially recognized as a corregimiento sometime before the year 1960. This means it became a recognized local area with its own administration.
Patillal's Culture and Music
Patillal is very famous for its rich musical traditions, especially the vallenato style of music. Many talented musicians who play vallenato music come from this village. One of the most well-known musicians from Patillal is Rafael Escalona.
The village loves to celebrate its musical heritage. Every year, they hold a special event called the Festival of the Land of Composers (Spanish: Festival Tierra de Compositores). This festival celebrates the people who write vallenato songs. Patillal also has a traditional Roman Catholic celebration. They honor the Virgin of Las Mercedes with a special mass every year on September 24.
