Patricia Marie Anthony (March 29, 1947 – July 2, 2013) was an American writer. She was known for her exciting science fiction stories. She also wrote in a style called "slipstream". This style mixes science fiction or fantasy with everyday life. It often makes you think about what is real.

Who Was Patricia Anthony?
Patricia Anthony started writing science fiction in 1992. Her first novel was Cold Allies. This book was about aliens arriving during a big war in the future. She then wrote several other unique books. These included Brother Termite and God's Fires. Her stories often combined science fiction with other types of writing. This made her books very original.
Her Amazing Books
One of Patricia Anthony's most famous books is Brother Termite. It came out in 1993. This story is about political secrets. It is told from the point of view of an alien leader. These aliens have taken over the United States. The famous movie director James Cameron bought the rights to make Brother Termite into a movie. A script was even written by John Sayles. However, the movie was never made.
Beyond Science Fiction
After her first books became popular, Patricia Anthony taught writing. She taught at Southern Methodist University for three years. As she wrote more, her stories changed. She started to move away from typical science fiction.
Her 1998 novel, Flanders, was a big change. This book was a deep story about an American soldier. He was a sharpshooter in the British Army during World War I. Flanders was very different from her earlier science fiction. Critics really liked this book.
Later Work and Life
After Flanders, Patricia Anthony stopped writing science fiction. She began working as a screenwriter. This means she wrote scripts for movies. However, none of her movie scripts were ever produced. She finished a new novel in 2006. But this book was never published.
Patricia Anthony lived in Brazil during the 1970s. Her experiences there later inspired her book Cradle of Splendor.
