Patricia Eloise Benoit (born February 21, 1927 – died August 6, 2018) was an American actress. She was famous for her roles on TV and in plays. Many people knew her as Nancy Remington, the wife of the main character in the 1950s TV show, Mister Peepers.
Patricia Benoit's Early Life
Patricia Benoit was born in Fort Worth, Texas, on February 21, 1927. When she was 19, she moved to New York City. There, she studied acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. After finishing her studies, she performed in plays for three years. She acted in "summer stock" shows and "Off-Broadway" productions.
Her Acting Career
Patricia Benoit first appeared on TV in 1950 in a show called Believe It or Not. Her big break came in a Broadway comedy play called Glad Tidings. In this play, she acted as the long-lost daughter of the famous actor Melvyn Douglas. For her amazing work, she won the Best Stage Actress award at the Theatre World Award in 1952.
She became very well-known for playing the girlfriend of Wally Cox in the popular 1950s NBC TV series, Mister Peepers. Their TV wedding in 1954 was a huge event. It was watched by many people and became a record-breaking moment in television history. The American TV magazine TV Guide even put a picture of their TV wedding on its cover page that year.
Personal Life
Patricia Benoit married Parton Swift Jr. in 1952. They were married until he passed away in 1991.
Later Years and Death
Patricia Benoit died on August 6, 2018. She was 91 years old. She is survived by her two sons, Jeremy and Nicholas.
