Patrick Dean Clark (born March 17, 1955 – died February 11, 1998) was a very talented American chef. He was known for his amazing cooking skills. In 1994, he won a special award from the James Beard Foundation for being the "Best Chef" in his region. He even competed on the TV show Iron Chef in 1997.
Patrick Clark was one of the first chefs in New York City to mix fancy "fine-dining" food with more relaxed "bistro" style meals. He also helped American cooking grow by using French cooking methods in new ways.
Early Life and Training
Patrick Clark was born in Brooklyn, New York City. His father, Melvin, was also a chef. Patrick grew up in a neighborhood called Canarsie.
He learned to cook in Europe. He trained and worked in both Britain and France. One of his teachers was a very famous French chef named Michel Guérard.
A Chef's Journey
In 1988, Patrick Clark opened his own restaurant called Metro. It was located in New York City. After Metro closed, he worked at other well-known restaurants.
He became the head chef at the Hay–Adams Hotel in Washington, D.C.. Later, he returned to New York City. He became the Executive Chef at Tavern on the Green, a very famous restaurant.
Many people thought Patrick Clark was one of the best American chefs ever. Chef Anthony Bourdain, another famous chef, said that Patrick Clark really impressed everyone. He was seen as a hero in the cooking world.
Family Life
In 1979, Patrick Clark married Lynette. They had five children together. Their two sons were named Preston and Cameron. Their three daughters were Aleia, Ashley, and Brooke.
One of his sons, Preston, also became a chef. He has won awards for his cooking, just like his father. At the time of his death, Patrick and his family lived in Plainsboro Township, New Jersey.
His Passing
Patrick Clark died on February 11, 1998. He was 42 years old. He passed away from a rare blood disease called amyloidosis. He died at the Princeton Medical Center in Princeton, New Jersey. His wife and their five children survived him.
