Patrick Joseph Shannon KPM JP (born March 11, 1902 – died August 26, 1963) was an important police officer. He was born in Cork, Ireland. He worked in places like Singapore and Sarawak, which are in Southeast Asia. He held high positions, including Deputy Commissioner of Police in Singapore and Commissioner of Constabulary in Sarawak.

Patrick Shannon went to St Nathy's College in Ireland. This is one of the oldest schools in the country.

Shannon's Police Career

Patrick Shannon started his police career in 1924. He joined a special police unit in Hong Kong called the Special Branch. This unit often deals with serious security matters.

In 1925, he became a probationary inspector in the Straits Settlements. These were British territories in Southeast Asia, including Singapore. He became a full inspector in 1929.

He also became a Justice of the Peace (JP) in 1938. This role means he could help with legal tasks, like witnessing documents. In 1940, Shannon became the officer-in-charge of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Singapore. The CID is the part of the police that investigates crimes.

World War II Service

During World War II, Patrick Shannon was captured by the Japanese army. He was held as a prisoner of war at Changi Prison in Singapore.

After the war, in 1947, Shannon was appointed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in Singapore. From 1949 to 1953, he served as the Commissioner of Constabulary in Sarawak. This was another very important police role. In 1950, he was also appointed Assistant Commissioner of Police in Singapore.

Awards and Recognition

Patrick Shannon received the King's Police Medal in 1950. This is a special award given to police officers for their bravery and excellent service.

Later Life and Passing

Patrick Shannon passed away on August 26, 1963. He died in Hadley, London, England. At the time, he was living in Hadley Wood.
