Patrick Lyon was born in 1669. He was the second son of Patrick Lyon, 3rd Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne. An Earl was a high-ranking noble, often owning a lot of land. His mother was Helen, the daughter of John Middleton, 1st Earl of Middleton.

His Family Life

Patrick Lyon married his second cousin, Margaret. Her father was James Carnegie of Finhaven. They did not have any children together.

A Role in Scottish Politics

Patrick Lyon was a politician in Scotland. He represented an area called Forfarshire in the Parliament of Scotland. The Parliament was like a government meeting where important decisions were made for the country. He served in the very last Parliament of Scotland, from 1702 to 1707.

The Battle of Sheriffmuir

Patrick Lyon was a Jacobite. Jacobites were people who supported the return of the Stuart family to the throne of Great Britain. This was a big political movement at the time. Patrick Lyon was killed fighting for the Jacobite cause at the Battle of Sheriffmuir. This battle took place on 13 November 1715.
