Patrick Ricard (born May 12, 1945 – died August 17, 2012) was a French businessman. He was the leader of Pernod Ricard, a very large global beverage company.
Patrick Ricard studied business in France, Germany, and the United States. After his studies, he joined the Ricard company. His father, Paul Ricard, started this company in 1932.
Patrick worked in many different parts of the company. In 1972, he became the managing director. When Pernod Ricard was created in 1975, he became its group managing director. By 1978, he was the chairman and CEO, which means he was the top leader of the company.
Growing a Global Business
Patrick Ricard had a big plan to make Pernod Ricard grow. His idea was to buy other companies. This helped Pernod Ricard offer more types of drinks. It also helped the company become famous all over the world.
This plan worked very well. The company bought other big businesses like Seagram and Allied Domecq. When Patrick started leading, only 17% of sales were outside France. By the time he finished, 90% of sales were from other countries. This shows how much he helped the company grow globally.
Awards and Recognition
Patrick Ricard received many important awards. In 2003, the French-American Chamber of Commerce in New York City named him "Person of the Year." This award recognized his success in business.
He also received high honors from the French government. On July 13, 2007, he was made a Commander of the Legion of Honour. This is one of France's highest awards. He was also a Knight of the National Order of Merit.
