Patrik's Early Racing Life
Patrik Sandell became interested in motorsport when he was a teenager. He was only 16 years old when he first tried rallycross racing. By the time he was 17, he competed in his very first rally event.
His hard work paid off quickly. In 2004, Patrik won his first major title, the Swedish Junior Championship. The following year, 2005, he added another victory by winning the Swedish Group N3 title.
Winning the Junior World Rally Championship
In 2006, Patrik competed in the Junior World Rally Championship. This is a very competitive series for young drivers. He had an amazing season, winning one race and getting on the podium three other times in just six starts. This great performance helped him win the overall JWRC title that year.
Over the next few years, Patrik continued to race in different rally championships. These included the JWRC, Production World Rally Championship, and Super 2000 World Rally Championship. He showed his skill by winning races in all three of these categories. In 2009, he became a sponsored athlete for Red Bull. That same year, he won his first two PWRC races in Norway and Cyprus.
Moving to Global RallyCross
In 2012, Patrik got a chance to race with the Mini WRC Team. He competed in his home country's event, the 2012 Rally Sweden, and finished 8th. This was his best finish in the World Rally Championship. However, after 2012, Mini's parent company ended its contract, and Patrik stopped racing in the WRC.
For the 2013 season, Patrik decided to try something new. He moved to the Global RallyCross Championship and joined the Olsbergs MSE team. He quickly found success, earning his first podium finish in his very first GRC race at X Games Brazil. He ended the year in 6th place overall.
Patrik repeated his 6th place finish in 2014. This was also the year he earned his first-ever GRC win at a race held at RFK Stadium in June.
