Jan Niklas Patrik Sjöberg (born 5 January 1965) is a famous Swedish athlete who used to compete in the high jump. He set a new world record by jumping 2.42 meters in Stockholm on June 30, 1987. This amazing jump is still the European record! It also makes him one of the top high jumpers of all time, just behind Javier Sotomayor and Mutaz Essa Barshim. Patrik also held the world indoor record twice, jumping 2.38 m in 1985 and 2.41 m in 1987. He won the World Championship in 1987 and earned three medals at the Olympic Games.

Early Life and Training

Patrik Sjöberg was born in Gothenburg, a city in Sweden. When he was young, he joined the Örgryte IS sports club. This is where he started his journey to become a world-class high jumper.

Amazing Achievements

Patrik Sjöberg had a fantastic career in high jump. He won a gold medal at the World Championships in Rome in 1987. He also earned three medals at the Olympic Games. He won silver medals in Los Angeles in 1984 and Barcelona in 1992. He also took home a bronze medal from Seoul in 1988.

Patrik is the only high jumper to have won medals in more than two Olympic Games, which is a very special achievement! He also won the World Indoor Games in 1985. On top of that, he was a four-time European Indoor champion and won the World Cup title twice.

In 1985, Patrik received the Svenska Dagbladet Gold Medal. This is a very important award in Sweden. It shows how much his country appreciated his athletic skills.
