In the year 2000, about 918 people lived there. For the 2010 census, this area was no longer counted as a CDP. It was located within the larger town of Rotterdam. Its name came from two smaller communities, or hamlets, within that town.

A Historic Spot: Mabee House
Rotterdam Junction is home to a very old building called the Mabee House. This house was built in the 1600s. It is the oldest house in the entire Mohawk Valley region.
The Mabee House is part of the Mabee Farm Historic Site. The Schenectady County Historical Society owns and takes care of this important historical site.
