Paulí Pallàs's Early Life
Paulí Pallàs was born in 1862 in Spain. When he was older, he moved to Argentina. There, he became interested in the idea of anarchism, which is a political belief.
Later, in 1891, he got involved with a group in Brazil that wanted to change the government. In May 1892, he was part of an event where a bomb was used at the Rio de Janeiro Alcantara Theater. He then returned to Spain in October of that year.
The Attack on Martínez Campos
In 1893, Paulí Pallàs tried to attack Arsenio Martínez Campos. Martínez Campos was a very important military leader in Catalonia, a region in Spain.
Pallàs was upset because Martínez Campos had used force to stop a protest in 1892. During that protest, some anarchists were punished.
On September 24, 1893, Pallàs threw two bombs. His goal was to hit Martínez Campos. However, the bombs missed Martínez Campos and instead hurt some people nearby. Martínez Campos only had small injuries.
After the attack, Pallàs did not try to run away. He was put on trial by a military court. On October 6, 1893, he was executed by a firing squad. His last words were, "The vengeance will be terrible."
About a month later, a friend of Pallàs carried out another attack. This event, known as the Liceu bombing, caused many deaths.
