Paul Crawford (born in 1963) is a British academic and writer. He is famous for helping to create a new field called Health Humanities. This field looks at how arts and humanities can help us understand health and illness better.

Paul Crawford's Career

Early Education

Paul Crawford studied English language and literature at the University of Birmingham. He earned his first degree in 1994. Later, he completed his PhD in 1999. His special research for his PhD was about the writer William Golding.

Work at University

In 2001, Paul Crawford started working at the University of Nottingham. There, he created a group focused on how language is used in health. In 2008, he became the world's first Professor of Health Humanities. This means he was the first person to hold such a title.

Today, he leads the Centre for Social Futures. This center is part of the Institute of Mental Health.

Important Projects

Paul Crawford has helped get over £6 million for research projects. These projects came from big organizations like the Arts and Humanities Research Council.

In 2021, he led a special project called "What’s Up With Everyone." He worked with Aardman Animations, the creators of Wallace and Gromit. This project aimed to help young people with their mental health. The campaign won an award for "Best Social Media and Content" in 2021.
