Paul Thompson's Early Life and College Years
Paul Thompson grew up in Smyrna, Tennessee. He went to Peabody Magnet High School in Alexandria, Louisiana. After high school, he played college basketball for the Tulane University team from 1979 to 1983.
College Achievements
Paul was a very good player in college. He won the Metro Conference Freshman of the Year award in 1980. This award goes to the best first-year player in the conference. He was also chosen for the First-team All-Metro Conference twice, in 1981 and 1983. In 1982, he was named to the Second-team All-Metro Conference.
Playing in the NBA
In 1983, Paul Thompson was chosen by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 1983 NBA draft. He was the 50th player picked overall. He played for the Cavaliers for a season and a half.
Moving Teams
In 1985, Paul was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks. A trade means one team sends a player to another team, often in exchange for other players or draft picks. Later that same year, he signed with the Philadelphia 76ers after the Bucks decided not to keep him.
