Pauline Ferrand-Prévot (born 10 February 1992) is a famous French cyclist. She is known for being amazing in many types of bike racing! She rides for the UCI Mountain Bike team Ineos Grenadiers in cross-country cycling.
Pauline has won world titles in road bicycle racing, cyclo-cross, and mountain biking. In 2015, when she was just 23, she made history. She became the first person ever to hold the World titles in road racing, cyclo-cross, and cross-country mountain biking all at the same time!
She has been a champion at national, world, and even Olympic levels. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, she was the youngest rider in the women's road race and finished eighth. Twelve years later, at the 2024 Summer Olympics, she won a gold medal in mountain biking. This shows how dedicated and talented she is!
Pauline's Cycling Journey
Starting Strong: Junior Years (2009–2010)
Pauline started her amazing cycling career very early. In 2009, as a junior, she won the European time trial title in road cycling. Just a few days later, she won the junior European cross-country mountain bike championship! This was just the beginning of her winning in different bike sports.
Later that year, she won her first world title in junior cross-country mountain biking. She also won two national road titles. In 2010, she kept winning. She defended her junior mountain bike world championship title. She became only the second rider ever to hold both World Championship titles in road cycling and mountain biking in the same year.
Becoming a Professional (2011–2013)
In 2011, Pauline started racing with professional riders. She got a second place in the national cyclo-cross championships. She also did well in big road races like La Flèche Wallonne, finishing seventh. She won two rounds of the Under-23 Mountain Bike World Cup.
By the end of 2011, she signed with the Rabobank team, a big professional cycling team. In 2012, she won her first national time trial championship as an elite rider. She also won the Under-23 title in mountain biking.
A Golden Year: 2014
The year 2014 was incredible for Pauline. She won her first national cyclo-cross title. In April, she won the famous La Flèche Wallonne Féminine road race. She also finished second in the 2014 Giro d'Italia Femminile, a major stage race for women.
In July, she made history by becoming the first French cyclist to win four national titles in one season. These were in road race, time trial, cyclo-cross, and mountain bike. She also won two Mountain Bike World Cup races.
In September, she achieved a huge dream: she became the World Road Race champion in Spain. This was a very special win for her and for France.
World Champion in Two More Sports (2015)
Pauline continued her winning streak in 2015. She won her national cyclo-cross championship again. Then, in January, she won the Cyclo-cross world title. This was a huge achievement!
Later that year, she focused on mountain biking. She wanted to win a third world title in a different sport. She succeeded! She won the World cross-country mountain bike title. This made her the first cyclist ever to hold world titles in road, cyclo-cross, and mountain biking at the same time.
Challenges and Comebacks (2016–Present)
The year 2016 was tough for Pauline. She had a leg injury that affected her racing. At the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, she struggled and had to stop her mountain bike race. After this, she took a break to recover.
In 2018, she made a strong comeback, finishing second in the European Cross Country Championships. In 2019, she won two more world titles in mountain biking: the Cross-country and the Marathon championships. She continued her success in 2020, winning another World Cross-country title and the European Cross-country title.
In 2022, Pauline became the first-ever winner of the UCI Gravel World Championships in the women's race. She also won two more mountain bike world titles that year. In 2023, she added two more world titles in mountain biking.
Her biggest achievement came at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, where she won the gold medal in the cross-country mountain biking event. This was a dream come true!
Personal Life
Pauline Ferrand-Prévot comes from a family that loves cycling. Her uncle, Ludovic Dubau, was also a French champion in cross-country mountain biking and competed in the Olympics.
