Paulo Rodrigues Barcelos (born May 10, 1960) is a former professional football player from Brazil. He was known for playing as a midfielder.
Paulo Rodrigues' Football Journey
Paulo Rodrigues began his football career playing for the youth teams of Nacional in his hometown of Uberaba. He later played for clubs like América-MG and Botafogo-SP.
In 1988, Paulo became very well-known across Brazil. He was a key player for the team Bahia. That year, Bahia won the Brazilian Championship, which is a very important football title in Brazil. Paulo was even awarded the "Silver Ball" (Bola de Prata) for being one of the best players in the league.
In September 1993, Paulo moved to Japan to play for Verdy Kawasaki. This club plays in the J1 League, which is Japan's top football league. Even though Verdy Kawasaki won the J.League in 1993, Paulo did not play in any matches that season.
He made his debut in March 1994, playing as a defender against Bellmare Hiratsuka. He played in three matches in March but did not play again after that month. He left the club in July 1994.
In April 2020, Paulo Rodrigues showed his generosity. He decided to auction off the "Silver Ball" trophy he had won. The money raised from the auction went to help people affected by COVID-19.
