Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Paultown (also known as Paulville) is a small, unincorporated community located in the eastern part of Adair County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. An unincorporated community is a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town does. Paultown is situated about one mile northeast of the town of Brashear. You can also find the Paultown Cemetery about half a mile to the east, overlooking a stream called Big Deer Branch.

Paultown's Early Days

Paultown, which was also known as Paulville, was first planned out in the 1850s. A man named Walker Paul created the map for the community, and that's why it was named after him. Think of "platting" as drawing the blueprint for a new neighborhood or small town.

In 1857, a post office was opened in Paulville. A post office is a place where people can send and receive letters and packages. This post office served the community for many years, helping people stay connected. It continued to operate until 1873, when it eventually closed down.
