Pauly Shore's Career
Stand-up Comedy Beginnings
Pauly was inspired by his parents, who both worked in comedy. When he was 17, he performed his first stand-up comedy show at a place called the Alley Cat Bistro. He knew he wanted to be a comedian instead of going to college.
While performing in comedy clubs, Pauly created a special character called "The Weasel." This character talked in a unique way, similar to how some surfers speak, using words like "dude" and his famous saying, "Hey, BU-DDY."
Time at MTV
Pauly Shore became very well-known when he started working as an on-air VJ for MTV. He worked there from 1989 to 1994. When he was most famous on MTV, he had his own show called Totally Pauly. He also hosted MTV's big Spring Break parties every year. In 1999, he even appeared as himself on an episode of the TV show King of the Hill, playing an MTV DJ.
Film Roles
In 1992, Pauly Shore starred in the movie Encino Man. This movie was a success and helped him get more roles in films. He then starred in other movies like Son in Law (1993), In the Army Now (1994), Jury Duty (1995), and Bio-Dome (1996).
Some of his films received mixed reviews from critics. Pauly's performances were recognized by the Golden Raspberry Awards, which are given to films that are considered the opposite of the best. He received awards for his roles in Encino Man and Bio-Dome.
In 1997, Pauly had his own TV show called Pauly, but it only aired a few episodes. He also made short appearances in music videos for the rock band Limp Bizkit.
In 2003, Pauly Shore made a movie called Pauly Shore Is Dead. This was a "mockumentary," which is a type of movie that looks like a documentary but is actually fictional and often funny. In 2005, he starred in a short reality TV show called Minding the Store. In 2010, he starred in Adopted, where he traveled to Africa to adopt a child.
More recently, in 2018, Pauly Shore appeared as himself in an episode of the TV series Alone Together. In 2024, he showed a preview for a short film where he plays Richard Simmons. However, Richard Simmons later said that he did not give permission for the film.
