Pavel Horváth (born 22 April 1975) is a Czech former professional footballer. He played as a midfielder, which is a player who helps both attack and defense. After his playing career, he became a football manager.

Pavel Horváth had a long career, playing for 22 years. He spent most of his time with Slavia Prague, Teplice, and Viktoria Plzeň. In total, he played 435 games and scored 78 goals in the Czech First League. He also played professionally in Portugal, Turkey, and Japan. He represented the Czech Republic for three years.

Pavel Horváth's Football Journey

Pavel Horváth started his professional football career with AC Sparta Prague in his hometown of Prague. He then moved to FK Jablonec to get more chances to play.

Playing for Clubs

After Jablonec, Pavel returned to Prague to play for Slavia Prague. He was a great goal scorer there, netting 27 goals in the league over four seasons. During his time at Slavia, the club won two national cups.

His excellent performance at Slavia led him to play for teams outside the Czech Republic. He joined Sporting Clube de Portugal in Portugal. However, he didn't play much there. Later, he moved to Galatasaray S.K. in Turkey, but again, he didn't get many chances to play.

Because of this, Pavel returned to the Czech Republic. He joined FK Teplice and helped them win the domestic cup in 2003. After three years in Japan playing for Vissel Kobe, he came back to Sparta Prague. With Sparta, he won the national championship for the first time in 2007. He also helped them win the Czech Cup in 2007 and 2008.

In 2008, at 33 years old, Pavel signed with FC Viktoria Plzeň. He scored eight goals in his first season with them. He became the captain of Viktoria Plzeň and led them to win their first-ever domestic cup in 2010. That same year, he was named the Personality of the League at the Czech Footballer of the Year awards.

Pavel continued to play well in the 2010–11 season, scoring eight goals. He helped Plzeň win the league championship for the very first time in their history. He played a total of 170 games for Viktoria Plzeň, scoring 35 goals.

Playing for His Country

Pavel Horváth played for the Czech Republic from 1999 to 2002. He made his debut on 9 February 1999 in a friendly game against Belgium. A "cap" means a player has played a game for their national team. Pavel earned 19 caps during his international career.

He was chosen to be part of the team for UEFA Euro 2000, a big European football tournament. However, he did not play in any matches during that tournament. His chances to play for the national team were limited because there were many other talented midfielders like Patrik Berger, Pavel Nedvěd, and Vladimír Šmicer.

Becoming a Coach

After retiring as a player, Pavel Horváth started a new career as a football coach. In October 2016, he became the manager of FC Viktoria Plzeň's Under-21 team. At the same time, he also worked as an assistant manager for the club's main team.

He later became the manager of FK Baník Sokolov for a year. On 4 January 2019, he returned to Viktoria Plzeň to manage their U21 team again.

On 11 March 2020, Pavel became the manager of Příbram, a club in the Czech First League. However, he was let go from this role on 15 March 2021, after a series of tough results.

More recently, on 27 June 2023, he became the manager of Jiskra Domažlice, a club in the Bohemian Football League. As of October 2024, he is the manager of FK Baník Most-Souš.
