Paw Paw was a small community located in Miami County, Indiana, in the United States. It was specifically found in Richland Township. Today, Paw Paw is known as a ghost town. A ghost town is a place where most or all of the people have left, and the buildings are often empty.

History of Paw Paw

Paw Paw was officially planned and marked out on a map in 1847. This means its streets and lots were designed before people started building homes and businesses there.

Why Paw Paw Became a Ghost Town

A big reason Paw Paw became a ghost town was because of the Eel River Railroad. When this railroad was built in Miami County, it didn't go through Paw Paw. This meant people and businesses moved to other towns that were closer to the train. As a result, Paw Paw slowly became empty.

Paw Paw's Post Office

Paw Paw had its own post office, which opened in 1840. It helped people send and receive mail for many years. However, the post office closed down in 1883. This was another sign that the community was shrinking.
