Paxo facts for kids
Paxo is a popular brand of stuffing and Bread crumbs in the United Kingdom. It is currently owned by a company called Premier Foods.
Paxo was created in 1901 by a butcher named John Crampton. He lived in Eccles, near Manchester. John wanted to offer something extra to his customers when they bought food for their Sunday lunch.
The History of Paxo
Early Days and Growth
When Paxo first started, its sales grew slowly. This was because stuffing is often eaten with chicken, and back then, poultry (like chicken) was seen as a special treat or a luxury. Not many people bought it regularly.
However, things changed in the 1950s and 1960s. The price of chickens became lower, while the price of red meats went up. This meant more families could afford chicken, and as a result, Paxo's popularity grew a lot!
Where Paxo is Made
For many years, from the early 1950s, Paxo was made in a factory in Sharston, Manchester. But in 2009, that factory closed down. Production then moved to a different factory in Ashford, Kent, which had been reopened.
Christmas Slogan
Around Christmas time, Paxo is often advertised with a special slogan. The slogan says, "Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without the Paxo." This is a fun play on words, as many people also say, "Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without the turkey!"
