Where is Pea Island located?
Pea Island is about one mile (1.6 kilometers) away from the main shore of New Rochelle. It sits next to two other islands: Davids' Island and Columbia Island. It is also just west of the New York City border.
What does Pea Island look like?
The island has a surface that is mostly rocky. It is also covered with grass. When the tide is low, you can see more of the rocks that are usually hidden by the water.
History of Pea Island
Who owned Pea Island before?
Pea Island used to be owned by the Huguenot Yacht Club. A yacht club is a group of people who enjoy boating and often have a place to keep their boats. This club is located on Neptune Island, which is nearby in New Rochelle's "Lower Harbor."
In 1992, a big storm hit the area. This storm caused a lot of damage. Most of the buildings and structures that the yacht club had on Pea Island were destroyed.
What happened to Pea Island recently?
In June 2019, Pea Island was put up for sale. It was sold together with the nearby Columbia Island. The asking price for both islands was $13 million.
