Peaceburg and World War II
In 1941, during World War II, the U.S. War Department bought a very large area of land. This land included Peaceburg and a nearby place called Morrisville. The total area bought was huge, almost 27,000 acres!
Training for Soldiers
Because the land was needed for the war, everyone living in Peaceburg and the surrounding area had to move out. The land was then used as a special training ground for soldiers. These soldiers were getting ready to fight in World War II.
Changing Names
At first, this military training area was called the Morrisville Maneuver Area. Later on, its name was changed. It became known as the Pelham Range Area.
