Peckham Platform is a cool art gallery in London. It used to be called Peckham Space. This gallery asks modern artists to create new art. They often work with local groups and young people. They then show this art to everyone.

Discovering Peckham Platform

How the Gallery Started

Peckham Platform began in 2009. It was an idea from Camberwell College of Arts. The goal was to create art projects in specific places. These projects always involved local youth groups.

The gallery building was new and built just for art. It was the first public art gallery built in South London since 1891. The Penson Group designed the building. You can find it in Peckham Square in South London.

Becoming Independent

Many groups helped fund the gallery at first. These included Arts Council England, Southwark Council, and UAL. In 2013, the gallery became independent. It was no longer part of Camberwell College of Arts. At this time, it changed its name to Peckham Platform. It also became a charity.

Meet the Director

The person who started Peckham Platform is Emily Druiff. She has worked as an artist and curator for a long time. Her work often focuses on art that connects with people and communities in London.

Art Exhibitions and Community Projects

What Kind of Art is Shown?

For example, Gayle Chong Kwan created 'Double Vision' in 2012. Filmmakers like Sonia Boyce showed 'Network' in 2011. Nikolaj Bendix Skyum Larsen presented '343 Perspectives' in 2012.

Other artists include painter Kimathi Donkor with 'Daddy, I want to be a black artist' in 2013. Performance artist Jessica Voorsanger showed 'Peckham Heroes' in 2011. Ruth Beale's 2014 show 'Bookbed' helped launch the gallery under its new name.
