Pedro Abarca was born in Aragon, a region in Spain. In 1641, he joined the Society of Jesus, which is a religious order also known as the Jesuits. He spent almost all of his life teaching. He was a professor of different types of theology, including scholastic, moral, and controversial theology. He taught mostly at the University of Salamanca in Spain. He passed away in Palencia.
What He Wrote
Pedro Abarca wrote many books and papers about theology. Some of his major works include five large books about the Incarnation (a Christian belief about Jesus) and the Sacraments (important religious ceremonies). He also wrote a book about Grace (God's help or favor) and several smaller papers on moral and religious topics.
Besides religious writings, he also wrote a lot about history. His historical works include "The Historical Annals of the Kings of Aragon," which was a history of the kings of Aragon. He also wrote about "The First Kings of Pampeluna." Pedro Abarca left behind many handwritten papers that were never published. He also wrote one work about the Church of del Pilar that he chose not to release during his lifetime.
