Pedro Laín Entralgo (born February 15, 1908 – died June 5, 2001) was an important Spanish doctor, historian, writer, and thinker. He mainly focused on the history of medicine and the study of human nature.

About Pedro Laín Entralgo
Pedro Laín Entralgo was born in Urrea de Gaén, a town in Teruel, Spain, in 1908. He studied at the Central University of Madrid. There, he earned degrees in Medicine and Chemical Sciences. He also completed his PhD in Medicine. His PhD paper was about how medicine and history are connected.
After the Spanish Civil War, he became a key thinker in a group called the Falange. In 1942, he became the first professor of History of Medicine in Spain. This was at the Central University of Madrid. Later, in 1951, he became the head of the university, known as the rector. During his time as rector, he helped create a more open environment for ideas.
He was a member of several important groups. These included the Royal Spanish Academy, the Royal National Academy of Medicine, and the Royal Academy of History. He received the Prince of Asturias award in 1989. This award is for achievements in communication and humanities. In 1991, he also won the Menéndez Pelayo International Prize.
His Ideas and Writings
Pedro Laín Entralgo wrote many different kinds of books. In his work about medical history, he wrote about medicine in ancient Greece. He also wrote about the history and ideas behind a patient's medical record. His writings about Santiago Ramón y Cajal, a famous Spanish scientist, are also well-known.
He also led a huge project called Universal History of Medicine (1972–1975). Many Spanish experts and famous foreign historians of medicine worked on this project.
He wrote several books about philosophical anthropology. This field explores the deep nature of human beings. He also looked at the history and ideas behind the connection between the body and the soul.
His Students
Pedro Laín Entralgo inspired many doctors. These doctors helped make the History of Medicine a professional field in Spain. Later, they also helped professionalize the history of science.
