A Bit of History
The building where the theater is now used to be a barracks. A barracks is a place where soldiers live. This one was for a cavalry regiment of the Spanish Army way back in the 1700s.
El Puerto de Santa María had an older main theater. It was called the Teatro Principal. Sadly, that theater was destroyed in a fire in 1984.
The new Municipal Theater opened its doors on October 27, 2007. It has been a popular place for shows ever since.
