How Peerless Got Its Name
The first post office in this area opened in 1914. It was originally named Tande. In 1925, something big happened. The Great Northern Railway extended its train tracks. They built a new branch line west from Scobey.
Because of the new railroad, the community decided to move. They wanted to be closer to the train tracks. At this time, the name was changed to Peerless. The name came from a type of beer called Schlitz-Peerless.
