History of Peggy
Peggy started in the early 1930s. Workers cleared land to make farms. This was done for H.R. Smith and John Mowinkle.
Early Buildings and Naming
They built a store called Hollywood there. It helped the people living and working in the area. A cotton gin was also built nearby. For several years, the community was known as Hollywood.
Later, a post office was opened in the late 1930s. The community was then named Peggy. This name came from John Mowinkle's niece.
Population Changes Over Time
In 1939, Peggy had one business and 25 people. By 1943, it had two businesses, but the population stayed at 25. The number of people grew to 50 by 1961. However, it went down to 20 by 1968. In 1990, it still had 20 people. At that time, it had a store, the post office, and a farm machine shop. In 2000, the population was 22.

Peggy is located where Farm to Market Road 99 meets another road. It is about 27 miles (43 km) southeast of Jourdanton. This is in the southeastern part of Atascosa County.
