Pemba (panda) facts for kids
Pemba was a special male red panda who lived at the Turtle Back Zoo in West Orange, New Jersey. He was 8 years old and lived there from 2007 to 2008. Many people loved seeing Pemba at the zoo. He was easy to spot because of his bright red fur, black legs, and white face.
Pemba's Time at the Zoo
Pemba made his home at the Turtle Back Zoo during 2007. Visitors to the zoo could watch him through a clear window in his special home. This area was part of the zoo's exhibit for animals from Asia. It was a great chance for people to learn about red pandas.
Pemba's Passing
Pemba passed away in April 2008. The zoo's director, Dr. Jeremy Goodman, said that Pemba likely died from common illnesses that red pandas can get. His passing happened about two weeks before another famous panda, Ling Ling, also passed away at a different zoo.
