Pemba Doma Sherpa (Nepali: पेम्बा डोमा शेर्पा) was a very brave and famous Nepalese mountaineer. She was born on July 7, 1970, and passed away on May 22, 2007. Pemba Doma made history as the first Nepalese woman to climb Mount Everest from its difficult north face. She was also the second Nepali woman to reach the summit from both the north and south sides. In fact, she was one of only six women in the world at that time to have climbed Everest twice! She even led a special team called the 2002 Nepalese Woman Everest Expedition.

Pemba Doma's Early Life

Pemba Doma grew up in a village called Namche-1 in the Solukhumbu district of Nepal. She had a tough start because her parents passed away when she was only two years old. Her loving grandparents raised her. She was lucky enough to attend one of the schools that the famous climber Edmund Hillary helped to build.

Pemba Doma was not just a climber; she also cared deeply about her community. She started a charity called "Save the Himalayan Kingdom." This group worked to help Nepali children get an education, no matter what their family background was. She also directed a company called Climb High Himalaya, which organized exciting trekking trips for people.

Incredible Climbing Achievements

Pemba Doma Sherpa was an amazing and determined climber. Besides her two successful climbs of Mount Everest, she also conquered another huge mountain. On September 28, 2005, she climbed Cho Oyu from the Tibetan side. Cho Oyu is the sixth-highest mountain in the world, so climbing it is a huge accomplishment!

A Sad Loss

Sadly, Pemba Doma Sherpa passed away while climbing Lhotse, which is the fourth-highest mountain in the world. She fell from a very high point, about 8,000 meters (26,247 feet) up the mountain. An Australian climber named Philip Ling saw the accident happen. Two other Sherpa climbers also died during a snowstorm while helping a group of clients on the mountain.
