Pemberton is a place found just east of Llanelli in Carmarthenshire, Wales. It is part of the Llanelli Rural community, which in Welsh is called Llanelli Wledig. Pemberton is next to Llanelli town and the villages of Cwmcarnhywel, Dafen, and Cefncaeau.
History of Pemberton
The name Pemberton comes from a family who lived here a long time ago. They were important landowners and business owners from the north of England. In the early 1800s, they helped develop Llanelli, especially the local coal industry.
Today, a big factory called Trostre Steelworks is in Pemberton. It is run by Tata Steel Europe. This factory was first built in 1947. About 700 people work there now. They make special steel that is used for things like food and drink cans, aerosol sprays, and paint tins.
Sports and Shopping in Pemberton
A large sports stadium, Parc y Scarlets, was built in Pemberton. It has 14,340 seats! This stadium replaced an older one called Stradey Park. Parc y Scarlets is the home ground for two famous rugby teams: the Scarlets and Llanelli RFC. Building the stadium cost about £23 million.
Right next to the stadium, there is a shopping area called Parc Pemberton Retail Park. Here you can find many different shops.
How Pemberton is Governed
Pemberton is part of the Llanelli Rural Council. This council helps manage the local area. People in Pemberton vote for four community councillors to represent them on this council.
For bigger decisions that affect the whole county, Pemberton is part of the Llwynhendy area. This area elects two county councillors to the Carmarthenshire County Council. These councillors help make decisions for all of Carmarthenshire.
