The Pembroke Public Library is known as a Carnegie library. This means it received money from the Carnegie Foundation. Andrew Carnegie was a very rich businessman who helped build many libraries around the world. The Pembroke library received a grant of $14,000 on December 24, 1907, to help build it.

A person named Subhash Mehta was the main librarian at the Pembroke Public Library for a long time, from 1970 to 2002. There is now a special reading room named the Subhash Mehta Memorial Reading Room to remember him.
