Penns, also known as Penn or Penns Station, is a small place in Lowndes County, Mississippi. It is an unincorporated community. This means it is not an official town or city with its own local government. Penns is located south of Artesia, right along U.S. Route 45.

History of Penns

Penns was once a busy spot, especially because of the Kansas City Southern Railway. In the year 1900, about 100 people lived in this community. A few years later, in 1918, the Mobile and Ohio Railroad closed its station in Penns.

A post office also served the community. It operated under the name Penns from 1888 until 1920.

What People Did in Penns

The Penn Company had a special business in Penns. They ran an apiary, which is a place where bees are kept. From this apiary, they shipped queen bees to different parts of the United States. Besides bees, people in Penns also shipped out hay and lumber.
