Peppertown is a small, unincorporated community located in Franklin County, Indiana. An unincorporated community means it's a place with a shared identity but without its own local government. It's part of Salt Creek Township.
The Story of Peppertown
Peppertown was officially planned and laid out in 1859. A person named Fielding Berry was responsible for creating the town's map, including its streets and building lots.
The community gets its name from August Pepper. He was one of the first people to settle in this area, arriving in 1851. August Pepper had an interesting job: he was a calico printer. This means he printed colorful designs onto fabric, which was a common way to make clothes and other textiles back then.
