Peralta is a town located in Valencia County, New Mexico, United States. It became an official town on July 1, 2007. Before that, it was known as a "census-designated place" (CDP), which is a special area defined for gathering population data. Peralta is also part of the larger Albuquerque metropolitan area.

Geography of Peralta
Peralta is located in New Mexico. The United States Census Bureau reports that the town covers about 4.4 square miles (11.5 square kilometers) of land. There is no water area within the town limits.
History of Peralta
Peralta has an interesting history. It was the location of the Battle of Peralta. This was a small battle near the end of the American Civil War in 1862. It was part of Confederate General Henry Hopkins Sibley's plan to take over New Mexico.
A famous priest, Anton Docher, known as "The Padre of Isleta," also served in Peralta. He was a priest in the area for a very long time.
