Starting in Politics
Percy Wickman began his political career in the city of Edmonton. From 1977 to 1986, he served as an alderman. An alderman is like a city councillor. They help make decisions for the city.
A Surprising Election Win
In 1989, Percy Wickman ran for a seat in the Alberta Legislature. This is where laws are made for the province. He was a member of the Alberta Liberal Party. He ran in the area called Edmonton-Whitemud.
In a big surprise, he won his election! He even defeated Don Getty, who was the Premier of Alberta at the time. The Premier is the leader of the provincial government. This was a very important win for Percy Wickman.
Continuing His Political Journey
After his big win, Percy Wickman continued to serve the people of Alberta. In the 1993 election, he was re-elected. He also won again in the 1997 election. For these terms, he represented the area of Edmonton Rutherford.
Percy Wickman decided to retire from politics in 2001. He had served the public for many years.
